This kind of borer is equipped with a cross table allowing movement in two mutually perpendicular directions. The table is usually rotary, allowing found sides of the part to be machines in one clamping. However, if the workpiece does not exceed the dimensions of the machine, which is additionally equipped with an angular head, it is possible to machine from five sides with one clamping. Table type boring machines are mainly produced in smaller sizes, usually its spindle diameter is somewhere around 110 to 130 mm and the loading capacity of the table is approx. 20.000 kg.
Table-type boring machines with cross-wise table movement, are designed for machining of small and medium-size workpieces of up to 50 tons and its table is movable only in the transverse direction, in the vertical direction the column moves along the bed. These machines are used for milling flat surfaces of long workpieces and diameter of spindle is somewhere around 80-160 mm.
All types of horizontal boring machines are conventional or CNC controlled. Among the most popular producers of CNC systems are Heidenhain, Siemens, Fanuc, Fagor.
Horizontal boring machines can be also equipped with automatic tool change which is primarily used for storage of tool holders, its manipulation and positioning without participation of human factor.
